Many people especially sports enthusiasts who are using their legs and knees more often need to put on some protection on their knees to avoid injuries.  Knees are very important assets not only for athletes but for all other people as well.  That is why it is best to use knee braces for different purposes. 

A knee brace may be worn for different functions; this is not just advisable for those who have already incurred knee injury.  Some people use knee brace for running.  Some use this to heal some knee ailments.

There are different types of braces for knee that one should know as each type comes with its own purpose or function.

Prophylactic

This type of brace is being used for protection.  This is very common to athletes – can be a football player, a volleyball player, a basketball player and a lot more.  Prophylactic brace prevents injury, which is why most athletes are wearing this even during practice.  Although in other cases, some coaches do not allow their players to wear this type of brace with the belief that the brace might affect the performance of players.  However, still many believe that prophylactic brace plays an important role and would not discount the possibility of getting a torn ligament that can lead to a more serious injury.  This means that a particular player may not perform well or even may be sent out of the game because of his incapability of finishing the game if ever an injury occurs.
